Dodgers Roster News: OF Luke Raley Recalled Before Saturday’s Game

The Dodgers are going to need to get creative with their defensive alignment on Saturday evening. With Cody Bellinger sidelined due to a hamstring issue, the team will need to completely change up the look of the outfield.

With Gavin Lux out, the shortstop position will likely need to be held down by Chris Taylor. That leaves Billy McKinney and AJ Pollock as the Dodgers options for centerfield during Saturday night’s game.

To help with the need for outfielders, the Dodgers are recalling Luke Raley to the active roster. Raley has been with the team all week in anticipation of them needing players. Los Angeles got hit with a few aches earlier in the week.

Raley will be returning for his 5th stint with the Dodgers big league club as he continues to bounce around in 2021. In 27 games, he has hit .180 with 1 double, 1 homerun, and 2 runs driven in. Raley has had much more success at the Triple-A level this year.

In order to make room for Raley on the roster, the Dodgers optioned LHP Darien Núñez back to Triple-A OKC. Núñez appeared in last night’s game and allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. He will likely continue to be a guy they use all year long.

  1. Raley has had more success at Triple A because he’s exactly that— a minor league player only. One of those guys in Dodgers system that may never really cut it in MLB.

  2. Why not DJ Peters before Raley? Another LH hitter w/ limited defensive abilities and no speed. Peters was coming around @ the bigs before he was sent down to make room for Belli. Although his strikeout ratio was high, he was listening to change and shortening his swing, while maintaining his high defensive skills. Plus he’s a RH bat w/ power. Sorry but Raley hasn’t shown much when he had the opportunity. Team needs to get more athletic….more speed, power, and five-tool talent.

    1. Shaka808U, I’m not sure i can understand how or why Dodgers come to these roster decisions. My guess is Raley will be sent back down once Muncy returns on Tuesday.

  3. I really have a hard time watching with the exception of the starting pitcher who do a great job only to allow a relief pitcher to come in and walk or just get hammered. Almost like they have read the script and now how to pounce down on these triple A team not so good players yet.

  4. Has anybody calculated what Sheldon Neuse, Luke Raley, and Zach Reks have hit for this team when called up. My guess is less than .180. And when Lux is healthy, he’s almost a sure out lately. McKinstry isn’t that much better either. We definitely need a Kike Hernandez type guy in our lineup right now – badly. I’d like to see Kris Bryant coming to the Dodgers. He could play many positions, he hits, and he’s a good “team” guy.
