Dodgers Rumors: LA Interested in All-Star Garrett Cooper

The trade deadline is less than a week away. And with that comes all of the speculation and rumors that you could possibly imagine. Dodgers fans are all too familiar with that feeling, being heavily rumored on big names at almost every deadline since new ownership took over. And this year is not any different.

Already rumored to be interested in Juan Soto, there are more names popping up surrounding the Dodgers. While adding arms seems likely, it feels like right-handed bats are also becoming a more frequent rumor surrounding the team.

You can add Garrett Cooper to the list of names the Dodgers are at least interested in adding. Cooper has a season and a half of team control before he hits free agency following the 2023 season. And the way he has played for the last few years could be huge for LA.

Cooper is currently on the injured list after getting hit on the wrist by a fastball this week. The Marlins are calling it a contusion, so the hope is that he won’t be out for long. But he’s hitting .279 and has posted a 122 wRC+ across 84 games. Adding in the All-Star infielder could be phenomenal for the Dodgers.

With Cooper, the Dodgers won’t get a lot of power. He has homered a total of 22 times over the last 3 seasons. But he does get on base at a decent rate and he has been incredible with runners in scoring position, hitting up near .300 on the year.

It wouldn’t be the most exciting move, but it’s definitely one that makes sense for the Dodgers. Adding him in would also allow them to take Muncy off of the hot corner more often, perhaps giving him some needed rest.

  1. He could be plan B if we miss out on Soto. He’s from Torrance. We could also get Soler, Floro, and Alcantara as well as Cooper.

  2. Sounds like Alberto which doesn’t move the needle. I’d rather the team give Vargas and Busch a shot before a move like this.

      1. Max has given the Dodgers 3 years of MVP conversion performance. After his injury and the shakeup around his position, he gets a mulligan this year.
