Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, And Other Dodgers Receive NL MVP Votes

MLB Network announced Giancarlo Stanton as the National League MVP on Thursday, beating out Reds’ Joey Votto and Diamondbacks’ Paul Goldschmidt. The Miami Slugger led baseball in home runs (59) and runs batted in (132), though many felt that Votto was robbed.

In case you’re wondering why, the tweet below should answer that for you.

No Dodgers were finalists for the award, but their names were all over the final votes.

  • Justin Turner (8th Place)
  • Cody Bellinger (9th Place)
  • Kenley Jansen (Tied For 15th Place)
  • Clayton Kershaw (Tied For 17th Place)
  • Corey Seager (Tied For 17th Place)

I think the order that these Dodgers came in is pretty fair. Justin Turner had an outstanding year, becoming an All-Star for the first time and finishing the season with a slash line of .322/.415/.530, 21 home runs, and 71 runs batted in. Cody Bellinger was also vital to the Dodgers’ 2017 success, leading the team in home runs (39), runs batted in (97), and slugging percentage (.581).

Kenley Jansen led the Dodgers’ pitching staff in ERA (1.32), WHIP (0.75), and K/9 (14.36). As far as pitching goes, his impact at the end of games was unparalleled. Clayton Kershaw missed some time with a back injury, but still managed to lead the National League in ERA (2.31) and Wins (18). Finally, Corey Seager had a fantastic sophomore year, finishing the season with a slash line of .295/.375/.479 and leading the Dodgers in hits (159).

The only other Dodger that might deserve to be on this list is Chris Taylor, who had an incredible year that nobody saw coming. After starting the season off in triple-A, Taylor ended the season with a slash line of .288/.354/.496. He also led the Dodgers in doubles (39) and came in second in hits with 148.

    1. Chris Taylor was the spark plug that got the Dodgers to the playoffs…undoubtedly, NL MVP…Stanton was good, for a 2nd division team…SMH

  1. Throw away the stats throw away the batting averages throw away everything. On a day 2 day every day in and out I got to give it to Chris Taylor.

  2. CLAYTON KERSHAW AND KENLEY JANSEN. CLAYTON RECEIVED SO LITTLE SUPPORT. THAT PUT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON HIM. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER FOR CLAYTON IF DAVE ROBERTS KNEW HOW TO GIVE THE BUNT SIGN. IN FACT, ON ALL THE PITCHERS. (HOW MANY TIMES WERE MEN IN SCORING POSITION WITH NONE OUT OR ONE OUT?) WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE SQUEEZE PLAY. I DID A 3 YEAR REPORT ON DON MATTINGLY ONCE. YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE HOW MANY GAMES ENDED WITH A TEAM WINNING BY JUST 1 OR 2 RUNS. BUNTING IS SO IMPORTANT.
QUESTION: WHEN WRITERS VOTE ON THE AWARDS, DO THEY ONLY USE THE REGULAR SEASON AND NOT THE PLAYOFFS? THANK YOU
