MLB Insider says LA Dodgers Eyeing Top of the Free Agent Market

The Dodgers have their sights set at the top of the free-agent market and are looking at starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg, as well as third baseman Anthony Rendon, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

However, Heyman said the team has set valuations for each player and they intend to remain disciplined. This should come as no surprise because that’s basically how every team works.

While that may be discouraging to fans, it is likely the Dodgers value all of them highly, so that wouldn’t take them out of the market. It has already been reported the Dodgers love Rendon and Cole more than any other free-agent during the Friedman era.

That love of Cole and Rendon is rightly warranted. Both are among the best players in the game and would fill a need on the roster. They both fit this team so perfectly, you can debate to sign Cole or Rendon and wouldn’t be wrong either way.

The Dodgers can afford one of them while staying under the luxury tax with some other moves that wouldn’t hurt the roster. But in reality, the owners should allow Friedman to go over the luxury tax to get one — or both, but that won’t happen — of these players. It remains to be seen how much ownership is willing to spend.

Expect all the big-name players, and lesser know guys, to continue being connected to the Dodgers until they sign a contract.

  1. John Heyman should know better by now. Here is that broken record I mentioned a few days ago. Interest is one thing but actually doing something with respect to these top FA’s is entirely different. These top plays may be ‘connected’ to the Dodgers but again, I just don’t see them spending that $$ to go over that cap. Ownership has devoted the off season money to these stadium renovations.

  2. If the Front Office has planned to actually see fans in the renovated stadium they should plan on signing both Cole and Rendon along with Dillion B. And Resign Ryu.

The dodger faithful is more fed up this year then any time I can remember. With ownership making hands over fist money on fans but not producing a product on the field That represents the wealth of this team. Some of the best players are some of the lowest paid on our payroll.

If the can sign cole and Rendon ….At that point fans would realize that the Front office actually wants to win a championship and not just compete for one.
I’ll say it again because this is the same argument I’ve seen the last few years. Dodgers make over 300 million a year just with the TV deal that leaves most of the fans excluded. The Dodgers fans who put more money into this team then any other team deserves to see the front office at least pretend that they are intrested in a world series championship.

Rendon will eventually be Jt’s replacement. Moving him to first. Cole would fill into the Kershaw roll and be his replacement. Slotting Kershaw into the 3rd spot. Dillion would work to replace Jensen as his drop off has been significant. The front office would have signed FA for the future of this team.

The front office have been disciplined in years past which has not brought them any closer to winning a championship I’ll be it this off season sets them up to sign a few large contracts.

So what will it be? A few more project arms and changing launch angles or putting together a few of players to put this already great Dodger team over the top for a 2020 championship!

  3. THEY TALK ABOUT JT @1ST,NOT WISE, HE HAS SLOWED DOWN @ 3RD, NEED A PLAYER THAT IS QUICK @1ST, LIKE BELLI, USE JT TO SPELL THE INFIELD. IT COMES DOWN TO COLE, RENDON, STRASBERG, IF THEY WANT TO IMPROVE , AND PEN HELP WHICH IS CHEAP RESIGN RYN. IT DOES NOT TAKE BUT A FEW PLAYERS TO FIX THE DODGERS.
